Image Bank Assignment: Larry Burrows
This is English photojournalist Larry Burrows, best known for his coverage of the Vietnam War. He was born on May 29, 1926 in London, but left school at the age of 16 to work for Life Magazine printing photographs. From there he went on to cover the Vietnam War taking several dramatic photographs of what was going on over there. It was very brave of him to be so up close and personal taking his pictures, but unfortunately it did cost him his life. Larry Burrows was killed covering the Laos invasion when a helicopter carrying him and other photographers was shot down on February 10, 1971. He was 44
All of the other examples of photography in your image bank were good, but what I saw wasn't enough to catch my attention. When I saw Larry Burrow's photographs, I was like "wow" because of how dramatic and in-your-face his pictures were.

Chapter 1 Group Review Exercise: Context
Our assignment was to demonstrate how context can influence perception. Play a relatively neutral scene (2 people talking to each other) without the audio. Tell viewers first that the people are arguing and ask students identify the visual cues that would point to the argument context. Then play the scene again with the stated context that they are discussing their daughter's success on the swim team, or something similar. Ask viewers to point out visual cues that would reinforce the new context
My role in the group was that I helped my fellow group members understand exactly what it was we needed to do for this assignment, then I suggested the Inception clip that I found online on YouTube, and then I suggested a couple of different contexts to use for the presentation. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there to present.
This is the movie clip that we used:
These are the names of our group members:

Reaction to The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The first thing you notice about the film that stands out is the first person perspective which you don't see done in a lot of movies. This is mainly because from the first person perspective you don't see other things going on in the setting that the filmmakers may want you to see, but it works for this film. It makes it really easy to understand his predicament and feel for him. Once you connect with him it's exactly like you're experiencing everything with him which is what makes this a good movie. Also, everything that's going on visually keeps your attention, and his sense of humor keeps you entertained. I don't think that this film is for everybody though, because of how artsy it is, but it's still a great film.
